DOCUMENTARY SERIES WANTS YOU!

Wednesday, April 1st, 2009

An award winning Vancouver based production company has created a documentary series about women with addictions or bad habits they are trying to kick.  We are specifically looking to “cast” a 35 – 55 year old woman with technical or gaming addictions.  Candidates need to be based in the Metro Vancouver area.   The series is for a major Canadian broadcaster so if you are selected you will need to be comfortable with national broadcast of your journey.  The series focuses on women who are smokers, shopaholics and gamblers but gaming or technical addictions is a niche we still haven’t filled.  Experience a once in a lifetime opportunity to meet with experts and go on a documented journey with 3 other brave women looking to kick their habits.

We are seeking participants immediately so contact me, Gillian Hrankowski directly at:   [email protected] for more details about the company and the show and tell me your story!

Remember my post about being interviewed for a documentary for the Fifth Estate? Well the documentary is on tonight at 9:00 p.m. EST on CBC. It airs again on Friday at 10:00 p.m. EST. It’s called Strangers in Paradise and focuses on two couples who’ve had their marriage seriously tested because of Second Life (an MMORPG).

Find out more about the episode here:

I wonder how my segment(s) will turn out?  I’ll try and get a clip of the pieces and post them here.  I’m sure the documentary will open many eyes. Definitely a must watch tonight!! And if you can’t watch tonight be sure to TiVo/PVR it or watch on Friday.

I’ll post my thoughts on the documentary after I watch it and I’m interested in hearing feedback from you guys too so come back and post your comments. :D

EDIT: I watched the documentary — it was really great!! My interview ended up being an online feature and you can watch it here: http://www.cbc.ca/fifth/2008-2009/strangers_in_paradise/gamer_widow.html

Interview on BBC Southern Counties Radio

Tuesday, November 18th, 2008

I just had a great interview on BBC Southern Counties Radio. Jess Love the producer of the show contacted me last week to ask if I was available for an interview today.

Luckily I was, and we just finished the interview. It was live and I wasn’t able to record it but Jess is providing me with a copy and I will post it as soon as I recieve it.

It always feels good to be able to let people know that yes this is a real problem and being married to a gaming addict really does make you feel like a widow.

Sherry is interviewed on Drivetime with Roberto Perrone (UK)

Thursday, November 13th, 2008

I am about to be interviewed for the Drivetime with Roberto Perrone show based in the UK.  I’m honestly not sure if the show is pre-taped (I’m listening live now and I don’t think it is) or not but we’ll see.  The producer is going to make a copy of the interview available to me after the show and I will post here as soon as I get it.

I’m to be a voice of sympathy today to all women because today is the day that ‘World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King’ launches.

I’ll keep you posted!  =)

Sherry is interviewed LIVE on Ireland’s Tom Dunne Newstalk Radio show

Thursday, November 6th, 2008

It’s 4:36am EST and I have just finished a live interview! I was just on the Tom Dunne morning show (it’s about 9:36am for them over there) talking about the site and telling a bit of my own Gamer Widow story. It was a lot of fun and also a bit nerve wracking. It’s funny, I have done countless interviews but the live ones still get the butterflies flying in my tummy.

Tom was very friendly and really put me at ease. I am waiting to see if they can get me a copy that I can post here. As soon as they do I will post it in our Media section.

I had really short notice or I would have announced my being on the show earlier so that someone might have been able to record it. Oh well…next time Gadget, next time!

Back to sleep for me!

Globe and Mail article about gamer widows

Friday, October 31st, 2008

On Wednesday I was interviewed by the Globe and Mail (a local paper in Toronto, Canada) about my experience as a gamer widow and about my experience being addicted to World of Warcraft for a while (yes that’s right, I have been on both ends of the spectrum).

Today the article went to print! Read it here:

Dr. Phil show about Gaming Addiction

Monday, October 20th, 2008

Today the Dr. Phil show was all about Video Game Addiction and how it affects families. The episode was called Virtual Chaos and featured a couple who is struggling to cope with a gaming addict and his gamer widow.

Wendy Kays (Author of Game Widow) and Brad from ExGamer.net were also on the show as well as OLG Anon founder, Liz Wooley.

I have the episode TiVo’d — I think I need to watch it again before I comment further.
